WH Screeton and HMG Paints have joined forces to build on the growing success of a range of highly effective environmentally friendly coatings that can significantly help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
"This is a product whose time has come," says Branton Screeton the M.D. "With global warming a huge and growing threat to our environment and the future of our children and grandchildren. The use of our product can simply and safely reduce the energy demands of a vast array of buildings, saving power and reducing the emissions produced in it’s generation"
Noting that not everyone is as committed to the environment as they might be he adds “with the price of oil rising, and energy bills facing new taxes the use of the product saves real money as well”
The product is applied to the roof areas of buildings where due to its unique formulation it reduces both the radiated heat in winter (saving heating cost) and reflects solar energy in Summer keeping the building cooler and reducing any air conditioning requirement.
A consequence of this temperature moderation is that roofs are subject to less extremes of temperature during the year. This has the effect of reducing temperature cracking and distortion and so reduces maintenance cost as well.
W.H. Screeton is a name that has been associated with speciality paints for over 100 years. However In common with a lot of small independent specialist manufactures the company suffered greatly in the late 1980’s and early 90’s, sadly ceasing manufacture in 1991.
The Screeton name and Product heritage could well have been lost forever, but for the dogged determination of the last MD and grandson of the company’s founder; Branton Screeton.
The company had for many years manufactured specified and supported high performance solar reflective coatings for the building and construction industry. The products distinguished themselves by being quite simply the best in the class and Screeton customers enjoyed the benefit of a combination of speciality knowledge, dedication and passionate zeal for the product.
This highly specialised enthusiastic approach is frequently the hallmark of smaller specialist companies in general. And paint and coatings companies in particular. It was under serious threat when the company realised that it could no longer continue to manufacture.
A chance meeting (both companies featured in a Channel 4 TV programme) with family paint making company: Manchester based HMG Paints Ltd set in train a gradual meeting of minds which has now resulted in the two companies working together to play to the strengths of each other’s businesses. HMG provides the manufacturing and infrastructure for the business allowing Screeton the control over quality they need without the traditional limiting factors of a smaller business such a capacity and invoice chasing.
HMG’s Marketing director Stephen Falder said, “ This bringing together of our companies joint skills ensures that an outstanding product with an outstanding heritage can grow to it’s fullest potential”
